In August, 1997, the =LNX= clan was born. Three PC Technicians/Gamers that worked together and had LAN parties every weekend got into the very stable operating system called Linux. They ran this operating system and loved is so much that they wanted to use it for a clan name. They formed a clan at the release of Half-life called =LNX= (short for Linux). It was a Half-life Death match clan that consisted of 3 guys. Those guys were DarkASSASSYn, AzNikon, and TangoSeal. A week after the birth of =LNX=, a guy called LightASSASSyn became a member of the clan. He was also a fellow gamer and good friend.
As time went on, this clan remained at 4 members. Realizing they couldn’t use Linux for any of the fun stuff they were into at the time, they stopped using it. The release of the HL Mod, Team Fortress Classic brought new territory for these “night hawk” gamers. They brought in a new member to the team called KlazorBlade. They all wanted to compete online but was in need of members. AzNikon and TangoSeal later moved on to the Quake world of online gaming, which left DarkASSASSYn as the rightful leader. That left only 3 members, once again. DarkASSASSYn felt like it was time to start recruiting and change the clan name to something that represented them. They had become well known in the HL community, so they wanted to keep the =LNX= tag. So KlazorBlade thought that the perfect name to represent them at the time was “Late Night eXecutioners”. This name stuck with them and is the grand title they wear today.
They recruited quite a few members, and one of the members gave them they’re first dedicated server. That member’s name was Delphiman. The =LNX= clan then joined the Online Gaming League and became official league competitors. They played a sporty group of guys that had the potential to be one of the greats. That clan was [DIM]. =LNX= and [DIM] soon formed an alliance and became good friends. [DIM] changed they clan tag to =DIM= to show the relationship between both clans. =LNX= ran up the OGL ladder quite rapidly with a record of 9/0 before something went wrong. Internal and external forces caused nearly half the members to leave =LNX= and join the ranks of the =DIM= clan. Another third of the clan, left for other unmentionable reasons. This was a learning experience and great turning point for =LNX=.
Through all the misunderstandings and turmoil, =LNX= never disbanded. The true =LNX= members are sincere friends and are in it for the long haul.
Today, =LNX= stands strong. We have exceeded the limits under being called a clan and are better described as “the =LNX= Family”. Those who think it’s silly, have no idea what it feels like. You’d have to be an LNX’er to know.
